I’m currently using four separate routines; but not successfully!
I have them turn on to 10% at sunset using that event trigger (routine #1); and I have them turn off at sunrise in the same way(routine #2). The problem I have is in the brightening and dimming.
I have these triggered by the motion sensor in my Ring Doorbell, which works fine as a trigger. When motion is detected my lights go to 100% for 5 minutes (routine #3). When no motion is detected for 5 minutes they dim back to 10% (routine #4).
However, the issue I have is that routine #3 operates all day! As does routine #4. The command to brighten overrides the ‘off between sunrise and sunset’ commands deriving from Routines #1 and #2. Meaning that my outdoor lights go off at sunrise….. just until I walk down my path. Whereupon they then dim and brighten all day!
I know that I can set ‘active’ times on Routines #3 and #4. But those settings are clock specific; rather than sunrise and sunset specific. Meaning that to use the ‘active times’ filter, I would have to change it at least weekly, to match the changing sunrise and sunset times. Which sort of makes more work than less! Which seems a little counter intuitive in Smart Home terms!
Any suggestions gladly received!
It sounds like you’re an expert in Routines, so I’m not sure how much I could help you with this request!
You didn’t say if your outdoor lights are set up using Alexa-connected switches/bulbs, or are outdoor lights that work with Alexa. If it’s the 2nd one, download and install the manufacturer’s app – there is likely a “Dusk till Dawn” setting that should be activated.
I detailed this explanation for another Voicebrew reader here.
Hope that helps you!
