However, during the newest Buick commercials, my Alexa doesn’t respond- even though they say Alexa out loud numerous times!
Is it a frequency thing? Is it due to words said around their announcing Alexa???
I am confused… I can even whisper Alexa from distant rooms and it responds.
In the short time I’ve been working on the Voicebrew forum, this is the best question I’ve gotten yet.
So Amazon actually uses something they call “acoustic fingerprints” to prevent your device from responding to TV. Your guess is probably right – they are likely manipulating some of the frequencies.
This prevention technology doesn’t work all the time, but the technology Amazon implemented will actually recognize if many Echo devices are being woken by the same TV show or commercial, and will take preventative measures to stop it in other people’s houses when that same show or commercial is on!
Hope that clears up a bit of the issue for you – but if you find that your Echo device is being woken up too much, you can always try changing to one of the other available wake words – “Echo” or “Computer”.

It’s pretty cool technology!
Thank you, makes sense and also answers why a random Tik Tok or You Tube post is not bypassed since it is random and hard to focus in on for the technology.
Is Amazon taking recommendations?
