I want Alexa to pick up from where I left off on my phone — and the when I play on my phone, I want to pick up where I left off listening via Alexa.

Your Audible account will be sync’d up with Alexa so when you say to “Alexa, play Audible” whatever book you previously listened to on your Audible account (whether on your phone or via Alexa) should turn on at the right spot where you left off.
Then, if you go to listen to the book on your phone, when you open the Audible app, you’ll see a message pop up noting that you previously listened to the book on your Echo and asking if you want to pick up where you left off there? Select yes!
