I’ve resorted to saying them in Spanish sometimes, but that doesn’t always work either.
Since my husband and I both share the shopping and the adding, we don’t always know how much of something is needed.
Please HELP!
This is a great question! I did a little experimenting on this, and I noticed that it worked inconsistently – I could get “2 cups of broccoli” on my shopping list, but not “5 bananas”.
Looking at the instructions for Alexa lists, it doesn’t seem like specific quantities are currently supported. The available commands are:
- “Add [item] to [list name].”
- “Remove [item] from my [list name].”
- “Clear my [list name].”
- “Create a list.”
- “Add [item] to my wish list.”
- On Echo devices with a screen: “Show me my [list name].”
Hopefully Amazon adds this as a feature in the near future!

Thanks for looking into it. It seems like an easy fix to add quantities…and would be super helpful!
