I have been attempting to get the Alexa allowed in my mother’s room at the nursing home. However, there are concerns about patient security and privacy from the nursing home staff.
Is there anything I can show the nursing home staff that would address their concerns and allow my Mom to use her Alexa? COVID has been very hard on these residents, so it would be so nice to be able to use the Alexa to help these seniors through a very isolating time.
This is an interesting question, because the use of Alexa in healthcare organizations has skyrocketed, but the concerns you mentioned are important considerations.
There are a number of use cases for Alexa in a healthcare environment, including nursing homes. I read news articles of nursing homes that have provided Echo units to residents with good success (for instance, here.)
Additionally, Amazon has provided a lot of information around privacy and security for Alexa, which is available here.
I would suggest seeing if the nursing home staff might agree to a trial of one unit to see how it goes!
Hope that helps.
