I’ll update this post if I learn of anything like this!
I learned this solution thanks to Mai’s comment in the comment chain!
I want to correct Alexa’s pronunciation of Ayn. She pronounces it to rhyme with rain but Ayn Rand, whom I knew well personally, pronounced it to rhyme with fine. How can I report this?
I want alexa to say my name right but it doesn’t I am not sure how to put it so it says it right my name is Nina ( Nine a) would this way work
This worked!!! My name is LeAna and is pronounced Lee On Uh with stress on the second syllable. The German spelling is Liana. FINALLY after spelling a dozen ways, I put an apostrophe after the second syllable and spelled it LeeAah’na and Alexa now can say my name. You’d think you could just ask Alexa to listen to my name and say it that way from now on, but noooooo. Anyway, this was a pain, but Alexa now knows my name.

I hate the fact that Gwen Stefani went solo and since then everyone thinks my name, Stefani, is pronounced Ste*fanny*, when it’s just like Stephanie.
I managed to fix it so Alexa says it correct, despite my spelling. It was fine for a few months. Then suddenly Alexa reverted to Stef-fanny. I check and my profile shows the correct pronunciation.
So why is she still calling me Stef-fanny?
I want Alexa to call me by my nickname that everyone uses, but she will only call me by my full first name. If you find a fix for this please let me know. Thank you
I definitely will!
My name is spelled Mai but it’s pronounced like the month of May so I just changed the spelling in my profile and now she says it right. This should work for you Patricia, just enter the name you want to use. Evie just try playing around with the spelling till she says it correctly. It’s worth a shot.
That is so smart!!
Just yesterday I decided to change the spelling of my name in the app to “Evvie” and it worked! I am really happy that Alexa now knows who I really am–even if she can’t spell my name! I wish I’d seen Mai’s solution earlier, but all’s well that ends well. Thanks to Katherine and Mai!
So so happy to hear that! Yay! 🙂
So happy that this tip let me finally fix how Alexa was pronuncing my name. I’m eternally grateful 🙏🏻

Will changing the spelling of my name mess up my amazon delivery notices?
Nope, changing the spelling of your name will not impact your Amazon deliveries!
I went to the Alexa app, settings and Profile. Found edit my name. Spelled it phonetically and it defaults back to my real name. What am I missing?
Hi Kaaren – That fix should work — what I would do is try a few different phonetic spellings and see if any of them work!
I’m having the same problems as Kaaren! Alexa keeps calling me “kai-dice” even though my name is pronounced “key-dis”! So I changed my name in the app to “Keydis” and even “Keydiss” but she still keeps saying “kai-dice”! It’s quite frustrating haha
I changed the spelling of mine but she keeps mispronouncing it when she says what account is signed in. ugh
I changed the spelling of my name to phonetic and then had to re-record my voice profile because that still had my old spelling attached to it. Give that a go!
Mai Gallop, you are a rock star as far as I’m concerned! I had to play around with different vowels and even an apostrophe to make Alexa pronounce my name correctly, but I finally found the right combination that worked! (happy dance) I don’t know if this will interfere with being able to make purchases on my Amazon account from my device, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Hi Kaaren! I am also a Kaaren. What spelling did you use?
I never gave Alexa permission to be so familiar, and I patently refuse to purposely misspell my own name. I simply changed the field to, “Miss” and, thus, Alexa must use a title. Now, if I can just get her to stay in Brief Mode as instructed. I get sick of hearing, “Getting that from YouTube” or, “Here’s what I found” every danged time. Don’t announce the results, just show them!
Hello everyone,
I know I am late to this conversation.
My name is Lysandra, but it’s pronounced Lasondra. I was about to change the spelling of my name when I found that the Alexa app has fixed the issue. Instead of changing the spelling of your name, there is now a place where you can write in the way you want your name to be pronounced! It’s under Settings/Your profile & family/Your profile: under your name it says “edit name and pronunciation”. Tap & at bottom of screen: “go to saved pronunciation”
Tap arrow next to your name. If that is not the correct pronunciation, tap “let’s fix that”
Now you have 4 options; the last being able to phonetically spell your name.
I hope this helps!
This is iin all probability why the simpler game has superseded it
in quite a few locations.

Hi. So i used the function under the amazon app, so now the app says my name right, but echo dot still calls me Darren. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ I’ve tried over and over to find a way to fix it and I can’t!
Yeah me too. My name is Seon pronounced See-on.
I changed my name phonetically and it says it right when I ask “what is my name?”
But then follows up with the incorrect pronunciation for the account and says:
“I’m speaking to See-on and this is Son’s account”
My name is Teje and based off that alone Alexa calls me tee-hee or tay-hay. My name is pronounced like Asia but with a T. When I type it in phonetically, it reads Asia just fine. When I type ‘Tasia’ she says it tah-see-uh. The gag is when I type in ‘Pasia’ its reads like my name…. just with a P lol but my name doesn’t start with a P.
I tried to be creative and I tried ‘deja’. Alexa says that right with no problem, I switched ‘deja’ to ‘teja’ and now i’m tay-ha…
ha bc this is a joke. Amazon just needs to allow people to speak their names and introduce themselves to their Alexa devices.
