Prepping for Thanksgiving is So Much Easier With Alexa’s Help

Just ask Alexa to get (almost) everything you need

With Thanksgiving coming in just two weeks, there’s no better time to start using Alexa to place orders on Amazon, Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh. Ask Alexa to order everything from the extra aluminum foil you’ll need to wrap up leftovers to festive tablecloths to cranberries (and all the other ingredients your Thanksgiving recipes call for). Just say “Alexa, order Ziploc bags on Amazon” or “Alexa, order chicken stock from Whole Foods (or Amazon Fresh)” (insert breadcrumbs, butter, Brussels sprouts and everything else on your list!).

Pro Tip: You can also say “Alexa, add (insert item) to my Whole Foods cart,” and it’ll be there whenever you’re ready to schedule a delivery, be it today or next week.

How to shop for Thanksgiving with Alexa:

• First, enable Alexa voice purchasing. Open your Alexa app, and tap the hamburger icon on the upper left to pull up the main menu. From there, go to “Settings” > “Account Settings” > “Voice Purchasing” and toggle “Purchase by Voice” on. (You’ll also need to have an Amazon Prime membership and chosen default 1-click payment and shipping address preferences)
• Re-ordering from Amazon with Alexa couldn’t be easier. Just say “Alexa, buy more aluminum foil,” and she’ll ask if you want to buy the same one you ordered last time on Amazon. All you have to say is “yes!” If you have an Echo Show, Alexa will display your previously ordered item as the top result and prompt you to say “buy this.” Easy peasy!
• What about things you haven’t purchased before? Since you’ll want to see that festive fall wreath or acorn twinkle light set before purchasing, it’s best to browse via the Echo Show touchscreen. If you don’t have an Echo Show, I recommend buying these items via your Amazon app or on Amazon.com so you can see them
• Grocery shopping with Alexa is great too. Say “Alexa, order sweet potatoes from Whole Foods” and she’ll pop them into your Whole Foods cart (you can also order via Amazon Fresh, and sometimes Alexa will prompt you to do so if Whole Foods ordering isn’t available). When you’re ready to check out, visit your Amazon app (yep, that’s Amazon app, not Alexa app) to review items and schedule delivery
