Start the Day Inspired with This Brand-New Alexa Skill
Just say “Alexa, open Bamboo Luminaries!”
In under 30 seconds, you’ll learn about a luminary of the day — historically significant figures in sports, film, history, music, science and more. Maybe it’s a luminary you know of but don’t know much about (I learned today that a Georgia O’Keefe painting sold for $44 million in 2014, setting a new record for a female artist!). Or maybe it’s a more obscure figure you’ve never even heard of. Either way, you’ll probably learn something new — and have fun!
Pro Tip #1: It’s nice to start your morning with a luminary. I recommend adding the Bamboo Luminaries Alexa skill to your morning Alexa routine for an extra boost to get you out of bed. It’s also a great family activity to do over breakfast.
Pro Tip #2: If you have an Echo Show, you’ll love seeing the luminary images displayed along with a bit about them (like in the Marie Curie image above). You can also open Bamboo Luminaries on your TV via a Fire TV Cube.
5 more tips to get the most out of this awesome new Alexa skill:
- After your luminary of the day, you’ll be prompted to either play Guess A Luminary or explore more luminaries. Pick one of these options, they’re really fun!
- If you choose to play Guess A Luminary, you’ll get 3 hints, but you can say “can I have 2 more hints?” if you need some more help
- If you choose to explore more luminaries, you’ll get to pick one from 3 options and then hear compelling details about the person’s life and achievements. I really enjoyed doing the luminary quiz at the end (and don’t worry, you’ll get a mix of easy and tougher questions)
- If you take a luminary quiz and don’t know the answer, you can just say “I don’t know” to get a helpful hint
- You’ll collect points and badges by guessing the luminaries and answering luminary quiz questions correctly. And when you return to the skill later or on another day, you’ll get an update on your leader board standing. As of this writing, I am #16 🙂
