Get your directions from Google Assistant!
Experts are expecting the roads to be packed as everyone heads out to celebrate Memorial Day weekend.
Even if you know how to get where you’re heading, I recommend getting some help from Assistant so you can avoid the traffic.
Before you hit the road, just say “Hey Google, give me driving directions to…” and then your destination to find out the quickest route.
Assistant will show you a handy snapshot of the trip from your current location to the requested destination, including a map, how long it’ll take to get there, and the best route given traffic.
If you want help navigating during your drive, tap the blue “Driving Directions” text to pull them up in Google Maps, and then tap “Start,” and you’ll be on your way!
Traffic ahead is closely monitored—so if there’s an accident or something else stopping traffic, Assistant can re-route you mid-trip.
Pro Tip #1: After you tap “Start” you’ll notice a rainbow microphone in the upper right corner of the screen. Tap it to access Google Assistant to send an email, get an update on your calendar, news, whatever!
Pro Tip #2: Want to make sure your arrival is timed to your hotel’s check-in time or another event? You can have Google give you a reminder when it’s time to leave. Just scroll to the bottom of the screen on Assistant, and toggle “Remind you to leave on time” and input the time you want to leave—or the time you want to arrive.
