It’s now even easier to get the word out to your whole family
For the last year or so, I’ve used Google’s Broadcast feature almost every night to let my family know that it’s dinnertime, that we’re leaving the house in 20 minutes and so many other things. It’s way better than going room to room shouting it out 🙂
So I’m pretty excited about Broadcast’s recent upgrade!
Now when you use Broadcast, you can also have it send the message to your family members’ phones (it’ll broadcast on the speakers, too).
This is especially helpful if you don’t have a Nest speaker in every room of your house (which is most people!) — or if not everyone is home to hear the message.
To use Broadcast, just say, “Hey Google, tell my family we need to leave in 20 minutes.”
The message will be broadcast to every Google Nest speaker—and the phones of anyone who is in your family. (Your family members will get it on their smartphone as a text message, with a little speaker icon they can tap to actually hear it.)
In order for your family members to receive the Broadcast text message, they need to be part of your Google Assistant family group. You can invite them in the Google Assistant app:
- Tap the circle with your image or initial on the top right corner
- Scroll down and tap “Your people”
- Tap “Add person,” and choose the appropriate person from your contacts.
- Repeat for each family member.
