Connect Ring to Alexa for the Smart Home of the Future
What is Ring?
Before we discuss how to connect Ring to Alexa, let’s go through a brief company overview.
Ring is a company that sells smart home products specifically designed to keep your home safe and secure. When you picture Ring, you might initially think about their video doorbells, but they also sell security cameras, smart security lighting, and security systems.
Ring also has partnerships with other smart device companies that easily integrate with existing ring systems, like smart door locks, light switches and dimmers, smart outlets, sensors (like smoke/CO alarms, and sirens). They also have an app specifically made for neighborhood watch.
Though Ring makes a variety of products, in this article we’ll focus on smart doorbells and cameras, and how you can easily connect Ring to Alexa.
Why should you connect Ring to Alexa?
Like most smart home devices that pair with Alexa, one of the biggest benefits when you connect Ring to Alexa is being able to control each device with voice commands like.
In this example, it’s important to have an Alexa device that plays video, like an Echo Show, Echo Spot or FireTV.
How do you connect Ring to Alexa?
- Tap/click here to navigate to the Ring Alexa Skill and tap/click “Enable”
- Open up your Alexa app
- Go to the Devices tab in your Alexa app (lower right corner of the bottom navigation bar)
- Click the + sign in the upper right corner
- Tap/click “Add Device”
- Select “Camera”
- Select “Ring”
- Tap/click “Continue”
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete set-up
How do you control your Ring camera?
Now that you’re set-up, you can ask Alexa to show you a live feed from your doorbell or camera. Just say “Alexa, show my front door.” When you’re finished viewing the live video feed, say “Alexa, stop” or “Alexa, hide front door.”
Pro Tip: Some users experience a delay in showing a live video feed, which can happen when your doorbell battery is low. In some cases, this can take up to 30 seconds to display a video feed.
