Alexa Alarms: One of Alexa’s Best Built-In Features
What is an Alexa Alarm?
Alexa devices come with numerous, readily available smart skills, one of which is a popular built-in Alexa alarm. The Alexa alarm clock is just like a traditional alarm clock or the alarm on your smart phone, except it utilizes powerful commands so you can control it with your voice.
Instead of manually setting an alarm clock every evening, use your Alexa device to fully automate your morning routine, ensuring you never oversleep again. It’s definitely one of the best Alexa sleep tricks!
How do Alexa alarms work?
Alexa alarms are easy to use because they are a core part of every Amazon Alexa device. Like other voice commands, your device listens for your “wake word” (in most cases, this is simply the name “Alexa”), and then listens for the sentence that follows.
Alexa alarm commands are among the easiest skills to use. Plus, unlike traditional manual alarm clocks, Alexa can set multiple alarms. You can set an alarm to wake you up in the morning and a second alarm ten minutes before you need to leave for work. Or, if you’re a chronic snoozer, you can set a few alarms 15 minutes apart.
Learn how to set up an Alexa alarm
Set up your first Alexa alarm in mere seconds. Simply say “Alexa, set an alarm for 7AM tomorrow morning.”
Tomorrow morning, when your alarm goes off, all you need to do is say “Alexa, stop” and the alarm feature will turn off.
Additionally, you can utilize the snooze feature to temporarily silence the Alexa alarm. Instead of saying “Alexa, stop,” just say “Alexa, snooze” instead, and enjoy nine additional minutes of sleep before your alarm clock sounds again.
Set up a daily alarm
If, like most people, you need to wake up at the same time each day of the week, you may want to set up a recurring alarm on your Alexa device. You can set up a daily alarm for every weekday either through the Alexa app or with an Alexa alarm command.
If you prefer to set up the daily alarm utilizing your voice, just say “Alexa, set an alarm for 6AM every weekday.” Want to learn more about Alexa alarm set-up? Read the VoiceBrew Alexa Alarm Clock Guide, here.
Or to set up the daily alarm using your Alexa app, follow the following four steps:
- Open the Alexa app
- Tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner
- Tap “Reminders & Alarms”
- Tap the “Alarms” tab to add, update or delete an alarm
Use your Alexa alarm to wake up with music
Depending on your preferences, Alexa can play your favorite music rather than the sound of a traditional alarm clock. To use this feature, you will use an Alexa voice command. Simply say “Alexa, wake me up to Dolly Parton’s 9-to-5 at 7AM tomorrow morning.”
Integrate Smart Home Lighting with Alexa Alarms
If you utilize Alexa smart home lighting, such as Alexa Hue Lights, you can have any lights of your choice turn on when your Alarm sounds.
Once you’ve set up your smart home lights, just say “Alexa, set a light alarm for 6 AM with bedroom lights” and your lights will turn on when your alarm sounds.
Please note: in order to make this skill work efficiently, you will need to assign an easy-to-remember name to your lights or a group of lights (e.g. bedroom lights). You can learn how to do this in the VoiceBrew Alexa Hue Lights guide, here.
Kick off an Alexa routine when you dismiss your Alexa alarm
With this new feature, you can have Alexa automatically start reading you news and weather or even play your favorite morning music just by dismissing your Alexa alarm.
