Alexa, play thunderstorm sounds.
I can’t fall asleep without some kind of ambient sound in the background.
Alexa gives you a large selection of free Alexa sleep sounds — from rain to a babbling brook to simple white noise. With Alexa, now you don’t need to buy that $20+ ambient sound machine.
Best Alexa sleep sounds & how to play them
“Alexa, play thunderstorm sounds.”
“Alexa, play rain sounds.”
“Alexa, open fan sounds.”
“Alexa, open white noise”
“Alexa, open wind chimes”
“Alexa, open babbling brook.”
“Alexa, open ambient sounds” to ask for basically any other sound you can think of.
Pro Tip #1
You want your Alexa ambient sounds on a setting where they play continuously on a loop. (Some Alexa sleep sounds play continuously on a loop by default, and some stop after a certain amount of time.)
For the ones that don’t loop, Alexa will ask if you want them to loop. Say yes. Then, you can choose how long you want them to play by setting a sleep timer (see pro tip #2 to learn how).
You can also say “Alexa, ask Thunderstorm Sounds to loop.”
Pro Tip #2
Set a sleep timer so your Alexa sleep sounds don’t play all night.
Just say “Alexa, set sleep timer for 2 hours” to turn off your Alexa sleep sounds in 2 hours.
Different Alexa sleep sounds turn off after different amounts of time. And some don’t turn off at all unless you tell them to with an “Alexa, stop.” So it’s always smart to set a sleep timer.
Pro Tip #3
Turn on do not disturb while you are sleeping.
With do not disturb turned on, you can avoid middle-of-the-night surprise Alexa announcements. You really don’t need to know at 3 am that your paper towel delivery is expected to arrive tomorrow.
Pro Tip #4
It’s a great idea to incorporate ambient sounds into your bedtime Alexa routine. Unfortunately you can’t directly play Alexa sleep sounds in a routine, but you can play a Spotify (insert your preferred music provider) playlist with tracks of your favorite ambient sounds such as this one.
Set a sleep timer so your playlist will turn off after a set amount of time.
