Just say “Alexa, open relaxing sleep sounds”
A good night’s sleep is essential for staying healthy (and staying sane). But with everything going on in the world right now, we’re all tossing and turning every night (or at least I am!).
Listening to relaxing sleep sounds on Alexa at bedtime has been a game-changer for me in recent weeks. I’m not exactly sure why, but the sound of a gentle rainstorm or waves crashing really helps me fall asleep (and stay asleep).
Say “Alexa, open relaxing sleep sounds” to start your own soothing falling-asleep routine. The Relaxing Sleep Sounds skill offers four different sleep sounds to choose from: rain, thunder, ocean and fan.
My favorite part? You can also have wake-up sounds (like birds chirping or church bells) take over from your sleep sounds at a wake-up time you set. You just have to opt into the skill’s Gold version 31-day free trial to try it out.
Not reading this email at bedtime? Get a notification on your Alexa device that you can open later: just tap/click here then tap the “Send a notification” button at the bottom. At bedtime, say “Alexa, what are my notifications?” and Alexa will offer to take you straight into relaxing sleep sounds 🙂
5 essential tips to listen to relaxing sleep sounds like a pro
#1. Turn loop on. When you open the Relaxing Sleep Sounds skill for the first time, you’ll be asked whether you want your audio to always loop. Say “yes” so that your sleep sounds play all night (otherwise they’ll stop after 5 hours).
#2. Opt into the skill’s Gold version free trial. That’s how you unlock the wake-up sounds feature! Plus, you’ll also get better quality audio and 10 full hours of non-repeating sleep sounds. (Note you can easily cancel before you get charged the $1.60 per month by saying “Alexa, ask relaxing sleep sounds to stop subscription.”)
#3. To turn your sleep sounds off, just say “Alexa, stop.”
#4. If you want to switch sleep sounds or change your wake time or sounds (or stop them), you can reset your preferences by saying “Alexa, ask relaxing sleep sounds to open settings.”
#5. Try listening to relaxing sleep sounds to help you focus during the day. I’ve found listening to ocean waves really helps me tune out distractions while I’m working from home.
