You can easily see what Alexa skills have access to your data
When you enable Alexa skills, you sometimes allow them to access information about you, like your zip code, email address, or birthdate.
Every once in a while, it’s a good idea to check out who knows what about you—and maybe remove permissions from skills you don’t use anymore.
To see what skills have access to info about you:
- Open the Alexa app
- Tap “More”
- Tap “Settings”
- Tap “Alexa Privacy”
- Tap “Manage Skill Permissions”
I ended up deleting the zip code permission for a couple of skills. It’s nice to be able to see exactly who has information about me, and limit it as I see fit.
The information there is really easy to review. It’s listed out by type of data so you can jump to the info you’re concerned about and remove permission by hitting a slider next to the skill.
Here are the different types of data you’ll be able to control access to:
- Email address
- Country/postal code
- Street address
- Access to your Alexa lists
- Full name
- Location services
- Mobile number
- Amazon Pay
