It’s very easy to do!
By now you’ve probably heard about the new Amazon Sidewalk.
Amazon Sidewalk automatically connects Echo and Ring devices in close proximity (say, with neighbors on your block) to expand wifi and allow the devices to work over longer distances.
The program, which launched in June 2021, works across a wide array of devices including Echos and Echo Dots (3rd generation and newer), Echo Show 2nd generation, 5, 8 and 10 and Ring Floodlight and Spotlight cams (2019 and newer).
If you’re concerned about being in sharing your network, you can opt out:
- Go to the Alexa app and tap More on the bottom right.
- Tap Settings, then tap Account Settings.
- Tap Amazon Sidewalk. A notice will give you more info on the program, or tap the blue Learn more link if you’d like more info.
- Beneath the Learn more link is the toggle switch to Enable or Disable as you feel comfortable. Blue means enabled, and greyed out means you’re disconnected from the Sidewalk program.
