Use this new feature, which will slow her roll
One of the frustrating things about voice-directed technology is that we all speak at different tempos. There are many reasons someone may be a slower speaker, from being a non-native speaker, having a speech impediment like stuttering, or just having trouble finding your words from time to time. This can make communicating with Alexa more of a challenge. But there’s a fix!
Hence this new feature, which, Amazon says, “when enabled, Alexa can give customers more time to finish speaking before responding.”
It’s rolling out now, and should be available on all 4th generation Echo devices by the end of October. Here’s how it works.
- Go to the Alexa app and tap More in the bottom right.
- Tap Settings, then tap Device Settings and choose your device.
- Tap the gear on the top right of the screen
- Tap “Adaptive Living” and toggle it on!
Pro Tip: Just as you can adapt Alexa’s listening pace, you can also adjust her speaking tempo. If she speaks too quickly, just say, “Alexa, speak slower” and she’ll slow it down a notch.
