Alexa can keep you warm

One of my least favorite things about winter is getting into a freezing cold car in the morning. Luckily, most major car companies are incorporating an Alexa feature in their newer models, so you can warm up your car from the comfort of your house. 

Here’s how it works.

1. Open the Alexa app and tap More.
2. Tap Skills & Games, then tap the magnifying glass in the upper right.
3. In the search line, type in the car manufacturer and tap Launch. You’ll need to select a device, and then connect your account via the prompts. The setup is slightly different per manufacturer, but your dealer can help if you run into any issues.
4. Then, use your voice for various commands, worded to go via the Skill. So in my case it’s “Alexa, ask Toyota to start my car.” She’ll start the engine, and whatever settings you have for heat. You can also ask her things like, “Alexa, ask Toyota if my car is locked”—which saves you a trip outside in the cold to check!
