Easily control what Alexa remembers about how you use your smart home devices
Privacy is top of mind for everyone, and we all have different levels of comfort with it.
If you don’t want Alexa to remember how you’re using your smart home devices — like what temperature you typically set your thermostat to or when you turn your smart lights on and off — you can now easily delete your usage history.
Here’s how:
- In the Alexa app, tap “More” > “Settings”
- Tap on “Alexa Privacy”
- If you want to delete your entire history: Tap on “Manage Smart Home Devices History,” then tap “Delete Smart Home Devices History”
- If you want to automatically delete your usage info that’s older than 3 or 18 months: Tap “Manage Your Alexa Data,” and under “Smart Home Device History” tap “Choose how long to save history.” Then make your selection!
Pro Tip
Deleting your device history may impact the way it works if you’ve set up custom commands like natural voice. So before you delete, make a note of any routines or skills you may want to reset for the device.
