Alexa’s lists make it so much easier
Alexa’s shopping list feature can make your life easier as we head into the holiday season. These are my three favorite hacks for making the most out of my shopping list.
Add multiple items at a time. Every week, I like to go through my kitchen and add a bunch of things at once. I can go through the fridge and pantry and call out, “Alexa, add milk, shredded cheese, paper towels, and bananas to my shopping list.” She doesn’t care that it’s a random order, and when it’s things that I buy on the regular, she’ll put in my favorite brands by default, based on my buying history.
Share your list with other people. My husband can add what he wants to the shopping list, rather than telling me what he wants and having me add it (we all know that happens!).
But it’s also great when I have houseguests coming; instead of asking them what they like to have on hand, I can share my list with them and they can add it directly. If I’m planning a weekend at the cabin with friends, I can create a master list that they can add to.
Here’s how it works:
- Go the Alexa app and tap More on the bottom right.
- Tap Lists & Notes to pull up your Shopping List.
- Tap Share in the upper right, then tap Invite others to add to your list.
- You’ll see a notification saying “I’m going shopping soon. To add something to my list, use this link” along with a link to the list. You can tap Messages to send the notice and link by text, or email to send it via email.
- Want to make sure you have everything without giving them access to add anything? Tap Send a copy and Alexa will text a copy of your link to whoever you want, without the ability to add to it.
Shop the list in the way that works best for you. Lists are great, but you actually have to do the shopping too! With the shopping list, you can do the actual shopping via Whole Foods or Fresh, with or without leaving your house.
- Go the Alexa app and tap More on the bottom right.
- Tap Lists & Notes to pull up your Shopping List.
- Tap Shop your list. You can then select how you’d like to do it. Select wither Fresh or Whole Foods as your store, and then choose from one of 3 options.
- With In-Store, you can select the location you’d like and get aisle-by-aisle locations of everything you need, so you can run in and get it done fast. Choose Pickup if you’d like them to do the shopping for you, and you can go to the store to collect it. Or select Delivery if you want to stay home in your slippers.
Pro Tip: Your home address is the default for grocery shopping. But if you’re traveling, just put in the zip code of where you are and you can select a store in that area.
