Alexa’s Soccer Skills
The world’s biggest sports tournament has officially kicked off. Now, 32 countries will compete with each other to reach the championship on December 18th.
On the soccer pitch, coaches from both teams will be barking encouragement at their players. Meanwhile, from the comfort of their couches, soccer fans around the world will be barking commands at their Alexa-powered devices.
For FIFA fans, let’s dive into a few Alexa skills that can improve your World Cup viewing experience.
Need-To-Know Skills
First and foremost, ask Alexa to “follow the soccer tournament”. This will make sure that she sends you daily updates, reminders, and scores for the games.
You’ll also want to set specific reminders for your favorite team by saying “Alexa, remind me when the USA soccer team is playing.
If you’re a true soccer nut, like a “paint-your-face-while-watching-the-game-at-home” nut, then you can even take Alexa’s updates one step further by asking her to “enable soccer world championship routine.”
Once this is set up, you can just say “Alexa, time for soccer” and she’ll help set the stage for every game. This includes tuning your FireTV into the World Cup and playing crowd cheers before announcing “It’s time for soccerrrrrr!!!!!”
Alexa is also a FIFAPedia of knowledge and can help you answer questions like “who is on Team USA’s starting lineup”, “what are the soccer standings”, and (for the part-time fans) “Alexa, how does the soccer offsides rule work again?”
Bracketology With Alexa
This year, Alexa can also help you participate in a March Madness-style bracketology for the World Cup. Just say “Alexa, fill my bracket” on your FireTV and you can get started predicting how you think each game will go.
You have until Nov. 28th to complete your bracket and, once finished, you can say “Alexa, share” to get a shareable QR code. This will allow you to share it across social media using #MyAlexaBracket.
Since it only comes around every four years, the FIFA World Cup is truly a special tournament. Fortunately, Alexa can ensure that you don’t miss one minute of the action – but, just remember not to blame her if your team loses.
