Somehow, someway, it’s already August. Absolutely wild. Don’t panic about back-to-school shopping just yet. You still have a full month to soak up the sun. Chances are you might be preparing for one final summer vacation before September rolls around. If that’s the case, there are two things we want to tell you:
First, don’t forget the sunscreen.
Second, take a look at the tips below to see how Alexa can help you protect your home while you’re gone.
Alexa-Friendly Security Systems
Since Alexa is a wifi-enabled device, it can pair easily with many home security systems. Some offer more functionality than others though so here are three brands that come most recommended:
SimpliSafe
SimpliSafe tops the list because it’s super easy to set up. There’s also no contract required and the SimpliSafe Alexa skill is very straightforward. Not only does SimpliSafe support basic Alexa functionality, it also gives homeowners access to text and email alerts. Some of the action phrases you can use are, “Alexa, tell SimpliSafe I’m going to bed” or “Alexa, tell SimpliSafe to lock up.” If you’re away and someone does happen to break in, you’ll know exactly which part of the house was breached.
Ring Alarm Security Kit
So, as many of you probably already know, Ring is an Amazon-owned company. It makes sense that Ring Doorbells and Security Cameras work pretty seamlessly with Alexa. We like Ring because it has some of the best Alexa camera controls. The installation is also DIY and the video security is pretty low cost. Ring can help you see who is at the front door when you’re gone. You can also invite others, including neighbors and police, to “drop in” on your Ring account to see video clips.
ADT
The final Alexa-enabled home security brand we recommend is ADT. The first two options are nice because you can get them set up yourself. This third one is for folks who really value professional monitoring. ADT has more professional monitoring centers across the US than any other competitor. You can even have Alexa listen for the sound of a carbon monoxide alarm when you’re out of town.
So, that’s it! Before you head out for the final few weeks of summer, be sure to check out these home-security options. It’ll give you a little peace of mind while you’re sipping a cool drink poolside somewhere sunny.
