But it is registered to HER Amazon account, not mine.
Is there a way to drop in on her Dot without registering it to my Amazon account?
This is an excellent question! There are few things to consider.
First, does your granddaughter have an Amazon account that’s part of your household? If so, you can use the Announcements feature to communicate with her and the rest of your Echo devices. This works well for messages like “Dinner is ready!” You can read more about announcements here.
If your granddaughter has her own separate Amazon account, you can contact your granddaughter in her room by saying “Alexa, call (your granddaughter’s name).” To set this up, follow the steps below:
- Open your Alexa app on your phone
- Open the Communicate tab at the bottom
- Register, and provide the Alexa app permission to access your phone book
- Ensure your granddaughter has done steps 1 – 3 also.
If you and your granddaughter want to take it a step further, there’s the option to “Drop In” on each other – essentially making a call without the recipient needing to accept the call. This is a great feature for checking in on family members who may need physical assistance to find their phone, but in your case regular calling may suffice.
Please let us know how it goes!
