The common answer from one of my Echos is “Sorry, I do not know that answer.”
The questions are not very difficult.
How do I fix this?

Hi Lori,
I’m not sure why your Echo would not know the answer to basic questions. But here are some troubleshooting steps to try.
First, is there anything near the Echo that would prevent the internal microphones from picking up your voice? Often things sitting very close to the device can prevent audio from getting through.
Second, you could always reboot the device by pulling the power for a few seconds. If that doesn’t work, I would suggest reseting the device and see if that helps things. The process to do that is here.
Third, if this Echo device is in the location you would use Alexa the most, perhaps you swap it out with one of your other devices around your home.
