Use these Alexa commands to find new songs you’ll really like
I love exploring new music, and Alexa makes it really easy to find artists and songs that are like ones I already know and love.
When I say, “Alexa, play more songs like (insert the name of an artist or song title),” she gives me other songs I might like.
You can use this handy command based on the…
- Song title: “Alexa, play songs like ‘Rhiannon'” gave me more Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Santana, and the Eagles
- Artist: “Alexa, play songs similar to The Beatles” gave me Beatles songs, along with the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Elton John
- Era (and artist, too!): “Alexa, play songs similar to 80s-era Madonna” turned on a playlist featuring George Michael, Cyndi Lauper, Janet Jackson, and Berlin
Pro Tip
This is one of those cool music features that only works if you’re listening via Amazon Music. Remember, Amazon Music is free with a Prime membership so if you have Prime, you can always add “on Amazon Music” to the end of your music command.
Alexa can also play songs based on a few lyrics!
I hate it when I hear a good song and want to play it again, but don’t know the artist or the title. If you can remember a snippet of the lyrics, Alexa may be able to help.
You just have to say, “Alexa, play the song that goes (insert the snippet of the lyrics that you remember).”
When I said…
- “Alexa, play the song that goes, ‘I’m not your lover, I’m not your friend,'” she (correctly) gave me Prince’s classic “I Would Die 4U.”
- When I said, “Alexa, play the song that goes, ‘Is it getting better, or do you feel the same,'” she (correctly) gave me U2’s “One.”
But when I said, “Alexa, play the song that goes, ‘Hair toss, check my nails, baby how you feeling,'” she was stumped. (That’s Lizzo’s “Good As Hell.”) She’s still got some learning to do 🙂
