I need one that with a simple query that tells me if the door is open, and a simple command to open or close.
First, your garage definitely needs to be in range of your WiFi signal from your house, and with good signal – because if the internet doesn’t reach the garage well enough, the garage won’t open.
Second, the kind of garage door opener you currently have matters. There are a variety of existing systems that can integrate with Alexa easily, and others that may be able to integrate if additional parts are purchased.
I was reading about some products on Amazon for this purpose, and saw one specific product that I think would work for you, from Meross. I haven’t personally tested it, but it seems like it would fit because it makes your existing garage door “smart”, and works with Alexa.
To ensure your garage door works, you must look at your garage door system to see what color the button is to “learn” a new remote, then email that information to the company directly, and they will tell you what parts you need.
Please report back how it works!
I tried the one, the alexa integration is tricky. It treats the garage as a door with a lock and the host requires you to enter a code.
I sent it back because while it can work it is too complex.
Hi Jim,
I understand your point – a code would make this process more tricky and complex. But it does make sense – if you left the windows to your house open, a burglar could just yell “Alexa, open the garage!” and it would open!
You may need to purchase a garage door system with Alexa fully integrated from the manufacturer to get the solution you’re after.
Hope that helps!
