This often happens when Alexa is having trouble connecting to the internet. The first thing I always try is unplugging my Echo and then plugging it back in — sometimes this just magically fixes things!
Make sure that your other devices (phone, computer, etc.) are able to connect to the internet in case it’s an issue with the internet and not an issue with the Echo being connected to the internet.
If that doesn’t work, make sure Alexa is still connected to wifi network properly by checking in the Alexa app –

1. Go into the Alexa app
2. Tap the hamburger icon in the top left corner
3. Tap Settings
4. Tap Device Settings
5. Tap the Echo smart speaker device that’s giving you problems
6. Check if the device is connected to the internet (if it says “Device offline” at the top, that means it’s not connected)
7. If your Echo is offline, make sure it’s in range of your wifi router and try reconnecting to wifi by tapping “Change” to the right of “Wifi Network”

If you’re still having trouble, try disconnecting your other devices (phone, computer, etc.) from the wifi and give it a go. (With so many of us working from home with all our devices connected to the wifi, there might not be much signal “left” for Alexa!)

I had this issue again last night, and I found another possible cause for it… if you’re trying to play a song on Spotify on your living room Echo speaker but you mistakenly left Spotify playing on your bedroom Echo speaker (or on your phone), then it won’t play on the living room Echo. You have to first turn off Spotify on your bedroom Echo.

 

You can play the same Spotify music simultaneously on all your Echo speakers at the same time, but you can’t have two separate Spotify sessions (with two different songs playing on two different speakers at the same time) from a single Spotify account.
